On Friday morning, an auto rickshaw driver was driving past Galaxy Furniture Hub in Dombivli, when he saw the victim — Satish Rasal, a road contractor — dead in his car. His throat had been slit open and the driver’s seat was soaked in blood. The police said his mobile phone, wallet and some other belongings were also missing. They learnt that Satish was a resident of Nilje Gaon, Dombivli (East), where he lived with his wife and three daughters.

Plot thickens
As the police began investigating the murder, they realised that the Rasal family had fallen prey to another crime in the past. Satish’s cousin Jaideep Rasal’s wife had gone missing four years ago, but the family never filed a complaint.

The cops learnt that instead of going to the police, Jaideep approached his friend Chandan Gaikwad, who took him to see a tantrik, identified as Baba Parshuram Patil (75).

Baba Patil assured Jaideep that his wife was alive and well and would get back in touch with him. After this, Jaideep kept meeting Baba Patil for reassurance.

Jaideep’s faith was bolstered when his wife recently got in touch with him through her friend. She was missing her children and wanted their photographs. Jaideep was overjoyed, until he learnt that his wife had already been in touch with his cousin Satish for 6-7 months. Jaideep began to suspect that something was going on between his wife and cousin brother, and flew into a rage.

A time to kill
Jaideep went to Baba Patil and told him that he wanted to kill his cousin brother, and asked for a muhurat to ensure the murder went smoothly. Baba Patil told him Thursday night was the right time for the crime. Jaideep enlisted the help of both Baba Patil and his friend Chandan. On Thursday, Chandan waited outside Satish’s office at Katai Gaon and kept the accused informed about his whereabouts. At night, Satish got into his car and drove to the Galaxy furniture store, where Jaideep was waiting for him.

Jaideep claimed that he had run out of petrol, so Satish offered to drop him at the next petrol pump. Jaideep got into the car and offered Satish a bottle of beer. They stopped to drink the beer, and once it was over, Jaideep took out a butcher’s knife and slit his cousin’s throat. Chandan also got into the car and attacked Satish with the knife again. Once Satish was dead, the two killers went to Baba Patil and gave him the weapon to hide. Police have now recovered the murder weapon from a secluded ground where Patil had hidden it.

The Thane Crime Branch (Unit III) arrested Jaideep (34), Chandan (33) and Baba Patil (75) and handed them over to the Manpada police, who had originally registered the crime under Sections 302 (Murder), 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 120 B (conspiracy) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.

To teach Satish a lesson, Jaydeep approached 75-year-old ‘godman’ Parshuram Patil. Patil, who apparently has a criminal bent of mind, advised Jaydeep to eliminate Satish

The Thane police have arrested a man, one of his friends and a self-proclaimed godman after one Satish Tukaram Rasal was found murdered inside his car on the side of a road in Dombivli. The deceased was a cousin of main accused Jaydeep Rasal (38), who suspected the former of having an affair with his wife.

To teach Satish a lesson, Jaydeep approached 75-year-old ‘godman’ Parshuram Patil. Patil, who apparently has a criminal bent of mind, advised Jaydeep to eliminate Satish. He also provided the murder weapon to Jaydeep, who then took the help of his friend and uncle in executing the murder.

After the body of Satish was found with severe wounds on his head and neck, the Thane crime branch started investigating the case. Initial probe revealed that Jaydeep had registered a missing complaint in May after his wife suddenly disappeared from their home. This information led the cops to Jaydeep. Following Jaydeep’s interrogation, crime branch sleuths arrested him, his friend Chandan Gaikwad and tantrik Patil. However, Jaydeep’s uncle Jayram Rasal is still on the run. After their arrest, the police recovered valuables worth Rs1,64,864, which they had stolen from Satish after his murder and buried in a field.

“Suspecting that his wife was into an extra-marital affair with his cousin Satish, main accused Jaydeep had registered a missing complaint with the police and begun plotting the murder. Being instigated by tantrik Patil, Jaydeep along with his uncle and friend kept a close watch on the deceased for the right opportunity to execute their plan. On the fateful day, they stopped him on the highway on the pretext that their vehicle had run out of fuel. Soon after Satish stopped, they attacked him with a knife and stole his cellphone and jewellery to make it look like a murder for robbery. They then handed over the murder weapon and the stolen valuables to the tantrik, who buried them in a field,” said a crime branch officer.

The police have gathered technical evidence of their movements on the day of the murder and the wife of Jaydeep has also confessed to having an affair with Satish. Following sustained interrogation, the arrested trio has also admitted to their involvement in the murder.

“We have arrested the trio under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. They were produced in a court which remanded them in police custody till September 17,” said Thane crime branch DCP Parag Manere

It has come to light that Dombivali resident, Satish Rasal — who was allegedly killed by his cousin, Jaideep Rasal (49), and was found in his car with his throat slit on Friday — had, in his final moments, asked Jaideep to explain his actions to which Jaideep had replied that he suspected Satish of having an extra-marital relationship with his wife.

After murdering Satish, Jaideep had fled the spot. According to a police source, upon his arrest on Monday, Jaideep recalled the last conversation he had with Satish because he felt “remorse”. Along with Jaideep, the police also nabbed his father, Jairam; self-proclaimed godman Parshuram Patil; and the former’s friend Chandan Gaikwad.

After his arrest, Jaideep revealed how he had committed the murder. “Jaideep told us that Satish asked him after Jaideep held a knife to his head, ‘why are you doing this to me, what is my fault ’ At that time, Jaideep told Satish that he suspected him of having an affair with his wife to which, Satish said he was not the one and with folded hands, begged Jaideep to leave him. However, till then, Chandan had slit Satish’s throat in anger,” said a police officer.

Frustrated with Jaideep and Jairam, both drug addicts who would regularly beat her up, Jaideep’s wife fled home four months ago in May. Jaideep, however, suspected she fled along with a friend of the deceased, Satish, who is a businessman. Sources added, “Jaideep wanted revenge and started planning the same with his father. On September 7, he got a knife from godman Parshuram to kill Satish. He then met Satish on September 8 and asked him for a lift, saying that the petrol in his bike was over. Jaideep killed Satish while he was in the car and took his friend’s help to return home.”

The police said that Jaideep’s wife had given them a clue about her husband. He was arrested under relevant sections of the IPC, sources added
