Delhi: Two more arrested for Mansarovar killings
TNN | Updated: Dec 8, 2017, 03:23 IST
NEW DELHI: Two men wanted in the Mansarovar Park murders were arrested by the crime branch early on Thursday. They were identified as Nitin (30) from Mandoli, Delhi, and Deepak (30) from Loni, Ghaziabad.
Both have several cases of dacoity against them. They were allegedly hired by the slain guard’s son and son-in-law, and were given Rs 2 lakh each for their role in the robbery and murders. Joint CP (crime) Alok Kumar confirmed the arrests.
The police commissioner met the investigating team led by inspector Vinay Tyagi and appreciated their efforts. On Thursday, he tweeted, “Proud of outstanding investigation by Crime Branch team which cracked the blind & clueless quintuple murder case of Shahdara District. Kudos to Delhi Police!”. The team would get a reward of Rs 1 lakh.
Explaining the role of the two men, police said that all seven accused had assembled at Loni on October 6 evening. They stayed at Deepak’s house and gave a final shape to the plan. After this, they had switched off their phones one by one and then took autorickshaws to reach Mansarovar Park late at night.
Nitin had committed a robbery at a liquor godown in Faridabad and also involved in two dacoities in east Delhi, one of them at New Ashok Nagar. He has been committing crimes since 2009, police said.
They said they would be moving for test identification parade of the accused as a maid who worked at the Jindal family home had spotted the guard’s son Anuj and two of his associates Sunny and Vikas on September 25. That day, the trio had gone to the house to do a recce. While Vikas went in, the other two took stock of the surroundings.
All seven are now arrested and the police would take them to Loni and Baghpat for recoveries. The case has been transferred to crime branch, which would further investigate the case and file a chargesheet after collecting evidence.
On October 6, the seven men had killed 82-year-old Urmila Jindal and three of her daughters along with their security guard. The guard had plotted the murder along with Anuj and son-in-law Vikas.

Mastermind’ of Mansarovar Park murder case killed by son, son-in-law: Police
By PTI | Published: 06th December 2017
NEW DELHI: The son and son-in-law of a security guard, suspected to be the mastermind of a plan, allegedly slit his throat and killed an octogenarian woman and her three daughters after robbing them in the Mansarovar Park area here, police said today.
Seven people were involved in the alleged killing of the octogenarian woman and her daughters in their house in October, out of which five were today arrested.
The killings were carried out with an intention to commit robbery and the mastermind of the plan was the security guard, who was killed by his son and son-in-law. Jewellery worth Rs 30-40 lakh was robbed while cash amounted to Rs 14 lakh, they said.
The bodies of Urmila Jindal (82), her daughters Sangeeta Gupta (56), Nupur Jindal (48) and Anjali Jindal (38) and security guard Rakesh (42), were found with multiple stab wounds on the morning of October 7.
Following the incident, a Crime Branch team under G Ramgopal Naik, deputy commissioner of police (crime) and Rajesh Kumar, assistant commissioner of police (Crime, Eastern range) started working on various angles in the case.
The team explored the angle of property dispute, personal enmity and robbery, the police said.
After analysing the injuries inflicted upon the victims and the post-mortem report, it was found that the accused were aware of where to inflict injuries so that a person dies instantly, Alok Kumar, joint commissioner of police (crime), said.
The son and the son-in-law of the security guard killed him thinking that he might spill the beans on the plan if questioned thoroughly by the police, they said.
It was found that Vikas (26), the son-in-law of the guard, was working in the GTB hospital as a sweeper, the police said.
He had worked in various departments of the hospital and had knowledge about the vital organs of the human body, Kumar said.
A close watch was kept on Vikas’ movements and he was called for questioning yesterday, he said.
After thorough interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the killings. He was arrested, following which the guard’s son Anuj (25), and their associates Sunny (22) Vikash alias Vicky and Neeraj (37), were also arrested, Kumar said.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Rakesh was working as a security guard with the Jindal Family for 15 years and was well-acquainted with the fact that the family used to keep a huge amount of cash and jewellery in their house, the joint commissioner of police said.
On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan in August, he had visited his village at Baghpat and shared his plan to commit a dacoity with Anuj and Vikas, he said.
Anuj discussed the plan with his two associates Neeraj and Deepak and also involved them in this plan. Vikas discussed the plan with his cousin Sunny, and friends Vicky and Nitin.
On September 25, Vikas, along with Sunny and Anuj, came to the Mansarovar Park and met Rakesh and conducted a recee of the area. Later, all the members assembled in Baghpat and finalised their plan, Kumar said.
They switched off their mobile phones so that the police could not detect their presence in the area after the crime.
All of them reached near Shahdara traffic intersection on two auto rickshaws and proceeded towards the Jindal house at 1 am and met Rakesh and went to his guard room.
Rakesh went upstairs and called out his owners. Nupur opened the gate of the stairs and Rakesh informed her that his family had come to meet him. Nupur questioned about why his family had come at an odd hour and asked him to make them stay in his guard room.
As soon as she turned her back, Vikas held Nupur from behind, gagged her mouth and dragged her inside the room and allegedly slit her throat with his knife, the official said.
The other six accused entered the house while Rakesh stood at the gate to keep a watch.
The other three women were allegedly stabbed to death and the accused broke the cupboards and safe of the house and looted the cash and jewellery, he said.
They escaped on foot around 4 am and distributed the robbed money and jewellery in a park near the GTB Hospital, the police said.
Each person received Rs 2 lakh of the looted amount and the jewellery was also distributed among them, they said.
The police have seized a knife used in the killings and Rs 50,000 from the accused, the police said.
The security guard did not have a good relationship with his family and used to visit them rarely. It was suspected that he might have hatched the plan since he was unsure about his future, they said.
The police was also probing whether the security guard’s wife was privy to the plan
Mansarovar murders: Five relatives of dead guard held
Urmila Jindal Urmila Jindal (in sari) and her three daughters were killed on 7 October 2017
Two months after DNA exclusively reported that the accused in the infamous Mansarovar Park murder case might have been known to the deceased guard, the Delhi Police Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested five of the guard’s relatives, including his son and son-in-law.
An 82-year-old woman, her three daughters, and a security guard were brutally murdered in the area on October 7, this year. According to the police, the deceased security guard had hatched a dacoity a month earlier but apparently, his associates killed him as they suspected he would break down in front of the police.
Two days after the murders, DNA had spoken to the investigators and reported that the killers could have been be linked to the guard. District DCP Nupur Prasad had then confirmed that the call records of the deceased guard and his family members were being scrutinised for leads.
Five people arrested have been identified as the guard Rakesh’s son Anuj, son-in-law Vikas, his aunt’s son Sunny, and his aides Vicky and Neeraj. Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Alok Kumar said that during the investigation, it was revealed that the persons who inflicted injuries on the deceased were aware that damaging vital organs would cause instantaneous death.
While trying to work on this input, it came to notice of the police that Rakesh’s son-in-law worked as a sweeper with the GTB hospital.
“He has worked in various departments of GTB hospital and has knowledge about vital organs. Because of the kind of injuries inflicted on the victims, it was always suspected that the accused had a clear understanding of where to inflict these wounds. It then came to knowledge that the guard’s son-in-law fitted our description. Close and continuous watch on the movements of Vikas alias Vicky was kept and all persons in touch with him were interrogated again and again. The Crime Branch’s efforts finally yielded results. Vikas broke down and confessed to his crime,” Kumar said.
His interrogation revealed that the guard was well acquainted with the Jindal family and knew they were prosperous. In August, on the occasion of raksha bandhan, Rakesh visited his village in Baghpat and conspired with his family members, especially his son and son-in-law Anuj and Vikas, about committing the dacoity in the house.
Anuj then discussed the plan with his associates, Neeraj and Deepak. Vikas also got his relatives, Sunny, Vikas alias Vicky, and friend Nitin involved in the plan. On September 25 around 5 pm, Vikas, Sunny, and Anuj came to Mansarovar Park, met Rakesh, and conducted a recee of the area.
“Thereafter, all the members assembled in Baghpat and finalised their plan. On October 6, they assembled in Loni and switched off their cell phones. Around 1am, they reached Shahdara, met Rakesh, and went to his room. Rakesh called his owner Nupur, who then opened the gate. Vikas then held Nupur from behind, gagged her mouth, and dragged her inside the room, where he slit her throat with a knife. Then other six persons entered the house, while Rakesh stood at the gate to raise an alarm, if required. All of them then stabbed and murdered the other three women in the house and fled with cash and jewellery,” the Joint Commissioner said.
After this, Vikas alias Vicky slit the throat of his father-in-law, Rakesh, as he feared that he might easily break down during interrogation. Then they went to a park near GTB hospital and distributed the looted cash and jewellery. They switched on their mobile phones the next day, Kumar said.
A team of over 200 policemen from the Shahdara district, apart from senior Crime Branch officers, had been investigating the matter. In fact, Commissioner Amulya Patnaik himself was among the first few to reach the spot.

Shahdara murder: Have lived here for decades, never thought of installing CCTV cameras, say relatives
The four women, who were murdered, lived with the extended family at Shahdara. Originally zamindars in east Delhi, the family sold off parts of land over the years.
The family at the centre of Saturday’s murders owned an oil mill in east Delhi since 1937, lived off rent from the massive compound it owns, and was preparing for Diwali. It also owns huge tracts of land and shops in east and central Delhi.
The four women, who were murdered, lived with the extended family at Shahdara. Originally zamindars in east Delhi, the family sold off parts of land over the years. The sprawling mansion, where they were murdered, was periodically built and rebuilt by different generations of the Jindal family.
At the heart of the mansion, spread across 24,000 square feet, is a lawn where successive generations of the family played and rested, relatives said. Urmila Jindal (78) was the second-eldest member of the family. Her husband, now deceased, had five brothers, of whom two are alive.
The family used to own the Jindal Oil Mill at MS Park, a mustard oil refinery, run by the family patriarch and Urmila’s father-in-law Ram Chander Jindal. After his death, the property was distributed to the six brothers, their sons and their families — most of whom continue to live at the mansion. The mill shut down in the 1970s and the family has since lived off the income by renting out various properties.
Still known in the area as ‘Mill waali Jindal family’, they were in the midst of annual preparations for a massive Diwali celebration. Shakun Jindal, a relative, said, “Although we are a huge family, we have always loved to live together. We were making Diwali preparations when tragedy struck.”
She added that Urmila, in spite of her age, was vivacious and would often tell stories about the past. She is now survived by her only living daughter, Abha, who resides in south Delhi.
Satish Chand Jindal, Urmila’s nephew, said, “We have never faced any threat or felt insecure. This is the family’s third generation staying in this house, and we never thought of installing CCTV cameras.”

An 82-year-old woman, her three daughters and a security guard were found dead in their ancestral haveli in east Delhi’s Shahdara on Saturday in what police believe could be a mass murder for property.
The five were found with neck wounds believed to have been inflicted by sharp objects though police are yet to recover any weapon.
Police ruled out robbery as a motive despite the women’s room being ransacked. Police are probing if a property dispute led to the murders.
“The aged woman, Urmila Jindal, was to sell her share of the property,” said Dependra Pathak, adding the entry into the property and the women’s room was “friendly”.
“The jewellery and expensive mobile phones of the victims were left untouched. Robbery does not look like a motive here,” he said. Urmila’s nephews and other relatives, however, denied any property dispute.
The murders happened in a haveli known as the ‘Jindal Oil Mills’, a popular landmark in east Delhi and one of the first buildings to be built in Shahdara.
Spread over more than 5,000 sq feet, the haveli housed seven families, including Urmila’s, and a total of 40 family members. The Jindal family was into mustard oil production from 1932 until four decades ago.
According to family and local residents, the entire Jindal family has other businesses and gets rent from other properties.
The four other deceased are Urmila’s three daughters, Sangeeta Gupta, 56, Nupur, 48, Anjali, 38 — and a 42-year-old security guard, Rakesh. Urmila had lost her husband a few years ago. Urmila had another daughter, Abha, who lives with her husband in South Extension.
“Nupur and Anjali had decided to serve their mother, so they did not get married. Sangeeta lost her husband a few years ago,” said Rakesh Jindal, Urmila’s nephew.
The murders were discovered around 7am on Saturday when a flower delivery man, a regular to the household, did not receive a response from the security guard. He entered the unlocked gate of the property to find the guard lying near the stairs.
“While the large family was discussing the guard’s murder, one of the members entered Urmila’s room on the first floor to find her murdered too. Her three daughters were lying dead nearby, either on the bed or below. All the five had been stabbed multiple times in their necks,” said an investigator not authorised to address the media.
