Zulfikar Abbasi and Dilshad, both in their late twenties and residents of Sikandarabad in Bulandshahr, were arrested for the crime, while a third accused, Israil, is absconding. According to police officers, the two men confessed that on the day of the crime, they first watched a film and consumed liquor, after which they set out in avehicle to kidnap a girl from the highway “for fun”.
“They (the accused) happened to spot the girl, who was returning home from tuition. They dragged her into their car on NH-91, just near the girl’s Chandpur village. Then they gang-raped and strangled her to death. Later that night, they dumped the body in a canal in Bil Akbarpur village in Greater Noida,” said police.
The car used in the crime, as well as other belongings of the accused, have been seized. Vijayapura: A teenage girl on the way to school was kidnapped on a motorcycle, gang-raped and murdered here on Tuesday.
The news spread like wildfire after the police got a postmortem done and handed over the body to her family.
Dalit groups carried her body to Ambedkar Circle, in the heart of the city, and sat in protest. The city was on the boil all night, with protesters burning tyres and shouting slogans.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed DG&IGP Neelamani Raju to order a CID probe into the incident. M B Patil, minister in charge of the district, arrived on Wednesday morning, met the bereaved family, and announced a government compensation of Rs 8.5 lakh. He promised an additional personal contribution of Rs 5 lakh.
Patil directed Kuldeep Jain, SP, to undertake a thorough probe and nab the guilty.
The protesters were not satisfied, and demanded the girl’s family be allowed to meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, scheduled to visit the city on Wednesday. They said they would continue their agitation otherwise.
They relented only after Patil acceded to their demand. The family took the girl’s body to Dargah extension for the last rites. Deepak Mulasavalagi of Manjunathnagar is the main accused in the case. He and five others took the girl to a house, where they gang-raped and murdered her, according to an FIR filed by the Adarshanagar police.
A special investigating team, led by DySP Ashok, has been constituted to crack the case, Jain said. The police are tracking the phone of the main accused, and it suggests he is shuttling between Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. Dalit organisations are contemplating a Vijayapura bandh on Thursday. The government will bring the perpetrators of the rape and murder to book, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Wednesday.
A statement from his office announced the victim’s family would receive Rs 8.5 lakh as compensation “although the girl’s life is priceless”. Siddaramaiah denounced the crime as “extremely inhuman”.
Opposition slams CM over Dalit girl’s rape
Bengaluru: The BJP and JD(S) on Wednesday slammed the ruling Congress, especially Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, over the gang-rape and murder of a schoolgirl in Vijayapura.
“The government is being insensitive by trying to compensate the victim’s family and washing its hands off the incident thus,” BJP Mahila Morcha general secretary and actor Shruthi said. Targetting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who was touring Vijayapura on Wednesday, Shruthi said women were no longer safe in the state.
“Crimes against women are increasing year on year. The entire Vijayapura district police force was busy giving protection to Siddaramaiah while the common man suffered,” she rued.
Pointing out that the victim was a Dalit, BJP MLC D S Veeraiah said violence against Dalits had risen after the Congress came to power. “In 2014, the state saw 2,040 cases of attacks against Dalits; in 2015, there were 2,028 cases and in 2017, there have been 1,993 cases so far. The government has done nothing,” he said.
JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy said Siddaramaiah should have visited the victim’s family to offer his condolences.
“It’s unfortunate that despite being present in the district, he failed to enquire after the family. The chief minister should at least visit the family members before he leaves the district. It’s regrettable that he is giving more importance to promoting his party than protecting the lives of the people of the state.”
However, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G Parameshwara said attacks against Dalits were taking place nationally. “The government will take necessary steps.”

Migrant guilty in Jisha rape, murder case
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM/KOCHI, DHNS: About 20 months after a 30-year-old Dalit woman was brutally raped and murdered in Perumbavoor, the lone accused in the case was pronounced guilty by a court in Ernakulam.
The Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court on Tuesday convicted Ameerul Islam (26), a migrant worker from Assam, of rape and murder of Jisha, a law student.
The gruesome rape and killing – Jisha’s mutilated body had 38 injuries including deep stab wounds – had led to a state-wide campaign seeking justice for her and opened an extensive debate on issues pertaining to women’s safety in the state.
The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence on Wednesday.
Judge N Anilkumar found Islam guilty under sections 302 (murder), 376 (rape), 376A (inflicting injury causing death or a persistent vegetative state), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 449 (trespassing) of the IPC.
Islam, however, was not convicted on the charges of causing disappearance of evidence or charges under the SC and ST (prevention of atrocities) Act.
Special Public Prosecutor N K Unnikrishnan said six pieces of scientific evidence, including traces of the victim’s blood that were found on the victim and the footwear found near the scene of crime, proved key in the probe.
Jisha was found dead in her single-room home by her mother Rajeswari on the night of April 28, 2016. In May, the investigating team managed to collect the suspect’s DNA samples. Days after the LDF government took over in May, a new investigation team was formed under ADGP B Sandhya.
In June, 2016, Islam’s arrest was recorded after police detained him at Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu.
The investigating team submitted the charge sheet on the case in September 2016. Trial on the case commenced in April this year.
The murder had also found a political context after criticism of investigation in the case launched under the previous Congress-led government emerged as a key plank in the 2016 Assembly election.
Coimbatore siblings kidnap, rape and murder case: Madras high court upholds death sentence of convict
TNN | Mar 24, 2014
CHENNAI: Three and half years after the kidnap for ransom, rape and the murder of two school children, a 10-year-old girl and her seven-year-old brother, the Madras high court on Monday confirmed the death sentence of Manoharan, only surviving accused in the case. Another accused, Mohanakrishnan, was killed in an encounter with police, nearly two weeks after the incident.
The incident shook the state so much that even the encounter-death of Mohanakrishnan evoked a muted response and objection from the public and rights groups.
On Monday, after debating the necessity to award death for Manoharan, a division bench of Justice S Rajeswaran and Justice P N Prakash said: “Here, the two children were kidnapped, one of them gang raped and both of them were given poison and pushed into the canal alive where they suffered a watery grave. We are inclined to follow the footsteps of the Supreme Court and we hereby confirm the award of death sentence to Manoharan, the accused herein.”
The court said it had to follow the Supreme Court in similar matters and it could not be guided by any other factors. Citing an identical case of abduction and murder of a minor boy, for which the apex court awarded capital punishment to the accused, the bench then upheld the death sentence imposed by the Mahila Court of Coimbatore in November 2012.
According to prosecution, the children were picked up from near their home by Mohanakrishnan, who used to come as call taxi driver and pick them up for about 20 days earlier.
On October 29, 2010, Mohanakrishnan came ahead of the usual driver, picked them up and drove them to Pollachi after intimidating the children. There he was joined by Manoharan.
The duo originally planned to extort money from the children’s parents, but while taking them to a nearly hillock, changed their mind and decided to rape the girl. They raped her inside the car itself. Later, they bought country pesticide and forced the children to drink, before pushing them into the PAP canal.
The girl’s body was recovered nearly 77km from the spot the next day, while the boy’s body was found stuck about 7km from the spot, three days later.
Haryana: Body of six-year-old rape victim cremated amid tight security
By PTI | Published: 10th December 2017
HISAR (HARYANA): A six-year-old girl, who was raped and killed in Haryana’s Uklana area, was cremated today amid tight security, as the agitated locals protested over the gruesome crime.
Some unidentified men had allegedly abducted the girl on Friday night when she was sleeping with her sister and mother in their home in a slum area. The men then raped and killed her, the police said.
The doctors of Civil Hospital who conducted the post- mortem examination said that the accused inserted a wooden stick into the girl’s private parts, which ruptured her intestine.
“When the body was handed over to us it was soaked in blood,” a kin of the girl told reporters here.
Angered over the incident, the opposition parties, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Congress and the local residents demonstrated against the Manohar Lal Khattar led government, on the cremation ground.
“The Khattar government is sleeping while incidents of rape and murder take place every other day,” senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said.
Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda while demanding an immediate arrest of the accused, said such barbaric incidents showed that law and order machinery in the state under the BJP government had collapsed.
Things have come to such a pass that children were neither safe in their schools nor at homes, Hooda said.
The barbaric incident was a chilling reminder of the December 16 gangrape case in Delhi in 2012 involving a young woman, he said.
Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala and party’s Hisar MLA Kamal Gupta and other leaders were also present there.
A case under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including murder, rape, kidnapping, besides, under the provisions of the POCSO Act has been registered.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been formed to probe the incident. However, no arrest has been made in the case, said a police spokesman.
The police is checking CCTV footage of the area to gather clues, he said.
The incident came to light yesterday when passersby noticed the body of the girl on a deserted street, the police said.
The victim’s family, who work as labourers, belong to the Sapera community hailing from Tohana town in Fatehabad district. They were living near railway lines in Uklana for the last couple of years.
