Ex-MLC son in net for murder

Patna, July 28 2013: The son of a former MLC pumped 32 bullets into his father’s alleged killer in 2003 and coolly set off for Delhi to study computer applications.

Avinash Srivastava’s luck ran out on Friday night when he was arrested with three others while going for a robbery in the Bypass area.

Senior police officers, who have been interrogating Avinash since the past couple of days, said he turned psycho after his father Lalan Srivastava had been killed in 2002. The next year, Avinash alias Amit, then hardly 20 years old, murdered notorious criminal Moin Khan alias Pappu Khan — said to be a key conspirator of Lalan’s killing — in Alamganj. Pappu’s body was later found riddled with 32 bullets.

Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaj said: “After killing Pappu, Avinash went to Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, to pursue his MCA degree but his criminal mindset never changed.” During interrogation, Maharaj said, Avinash cofessed to murdering three persons claiming that he would gun down more once he is out of jail.

Another police officer said, even after completing MCA, probably because of family pressure, Avinash did not change his tack and rejoined the crime world after coming back to Patna in 2006. “Since then, he has been active in the underworld,” he said, adding that Avinash never stayed with his family — his mother and sister live in Kankerbagh — after joining the criminals.

Clinical psychologist Brinda Singh said killing with 32 bullets indicated high level of frustration, which is a symptom of mental sickness. He said: “Anyone’s mind being dominated by thought of revenge leads to a situation when thought process does not remain coherent that further adds to the frustration level.”

In case of Avinash, it is not clear, said the police sources, whether he was provoked by the family members or not.

Avinash, who used to reside at Ashok Nagar after completing his MCA studies, was involved in many criminal activities. Several cases under the Arms Act and murder are pending against Avinash since 2011. He was arrested on several occasions also but every time he was released on bail as the police had no idea that he was Pappu’s killer.

The police on Friday night picked up four persons, including Avinash, from the Bypass area with three country-made pistols, six live cartridges, a knife and cellphone. The others were identified as Munni Devi, Ravi Kumar Gupta and Prince Kumar, while two others managed to escape. They were planning to burgle a house in Maharani Colony, Maharaj said

Avinash Srivastava alias Amit’s brazen story is one which has ‘inspired’ Bollywood. Amit, who has worked in one of the top IT firms of the country, has 20 murders to his name. So, what forced this man with a Masters in Computer Application turn into a dreaded killer.

THE STORY OF A TECHIE-TURNED-MURDERER

After completing his MCA from Delhi’s prestigious Jamia Milia Islamia university, Avinash was hired to work with Infosys. The young man couldn’t have asked for more. It was all going smooth for him until that day in 2002 which changed his life forever. Avinash’s father, Lala Sinha alias Lalan Srivastava, a former MLC, was murdered by some goons in Patna’s Kankarbagh area.

The techie now had only one agenda in his life – to bring the killers of his father to justice. And he decided to do it in his own murderous way.

HOW AVINASH INSPIRED FILM – GANGS OF WASSEYPUR

There’s a scene in 2012 film Gangs of Wasseypur-2 in which one of the characters pumps several bullets into an MLA’s body. This climax of the second part of the two-part movie is said to have been picked up from a real-life incident involving Avinash.

After his father’s murder, Avinash joined a group of local gangsters in Patna to go after the criminals who killed Lala Sinha. In 2003, Avinash got hold of noted criminal Moin Khan and sprayed his body with 32 bullets. It is said that Avinash kept on pumping bullets into Khan’s body for three hours before leaving the spot.

The former techie told the police that he has killed five out of the six men involved in the murder of his father so far. “My hit list still has names of a few people left,” Avinash told the police.

Avinash admitted to the police that he had committed 20 murders. With his arrest, the police now claims to have solved several murder and loot cases. In fact, he was arrested in July 2013 in connection with a loot case but managed to walk out of the jail.

THE KILLER’S ‘BLUE’ CONNECT

The trigger-happy ‘pyscho killer’ made sure that he was dressed only in blue while committing any crime. He believed that the colour brings him luck. He committed his first crime wearing a blue T-shirt, trousers and shoes. Ironically, he was in his favourite colours when the police nabbed him.

Bank robber turns out psycho killer

The first time Avinash Srivastava alias Amit, now in his early thirties, wielded a gun he pumped 32 bullets into his father’s killer, Moin Khan alias Pappu Khan, in Alamganj locality of Patna City in 2003.

It bears an eerie similarity to the scene in Gangs of Wasseypur where Faizal Khan (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui) empties his gun into his father’s killer Ramadhir Singh (played by Tigmanshu Dhulia). Murder avenged, Amit set off for New Delhi to study computer application at the Jamia Millia Islamia.

But that was not the end of his tryst with crime. The son of former MLC Lala Srivastava alias Lallan Srivastava has since committed 20 murders and was arrested on Sunday night from an area under the jurisdiction of Mahua police station in Vaishali district in connection with a bank theft at Harpur Hardas village. Before he entered the crime world, he had even worked for one of the top IT firms of the country (Infosys).

The Vaishali district police had no idea they had arrested a psychopath. “Don’t waste your and my time interrogating me,” he told them right away. “Just Google ‘psycho killer Amit’ and you will get all the answers.”

But the search engine may not be able to answer what forced a Masters in Computer Application (MCA) to become a dreaded killer.

Police sources said Avinash’s name had figured in the sensational killing of Moin Khan in Alamganj in 2003. Moin had allegedly killed Avinash’s father in Kankarbagh the year before.

“He pumped 32 bullets into his father’s alleged killer and coolly set off for New Delhi to study computer application at Jamia. But his criminal mindset never changed,” said Vaishali superintendent of police (SP) Rakesh Kumar.

Senior police officers who quizzed Avinash said he turned into a psycho after his father’s murder. The very next year, Avinash, then hardly 20, brutally killed Moin – said to be a key conspirator in Lallan’s killing. His body was found riddled with 32 bullets.

“During interrogation, Avinash had confessed to murdering three persons and claimed he would gun down more once he is out of jail,” Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj, who had earlier arrested Avinash from Patna about three years ago, said.

Even after doing MCA, family pressure believably forced Avinash to rejoin crime when he returned to Patna in 2006.

“Since then, he has been active in the underworld,” another police officer said. He also stopped living with his family – his mother and sister live in Kankarbagh – after joining the crime world.

Pumping 32 bullets into someone indicates a high level of frustration, clinical psychologist Brinda Singh said. “When thoughts of revenge dominate someone’s mind, it leads to a situation when the thought process does not remain coherent, further adding to the frustration level.”

Police sources said they were not sure whether or not his family members provoked Avinash.

Several cases under the Arms Act and murder are pending against Avinash, who used to reside at Ashok Nagar in Patna, since 2011.

He was arrested on several occasions and released on bail every time, as the police had no idea that he was Moin’s killer, until he confessed on Sunday.

However, Avinash’s luck ran out on Sunday night when Mahua police caught him while attempting to rob a bank at Harpur Hardas village.

“The thieves entered the bank posing as kavarias (lord Shiva’s devotees). But the police on duty arrested Avinash,” an investigating officer said. His three accomplices managed to escape.

During interrogation, Avinash revealed that he used to wear blue-colour jeans and T-shirts before setting off for any crime.

“This is my favourite colour and I always wear it at work,” a police officer quoted Avinash as saying.
